About the Image(s)

For this month competition I have chosen as a background an image of a tree that I took last year in Tasmania, I love this dead tree!
The House is from a small town in the mountains in Switzerland I took it last Christmas holidays. The sheep and the geese are sitting in my gallery for long and the girl is a recently shot of a rainy day.
I have placed the background and I have extended it on the right site to make room for the house, I have placed the other elements, placed a small shadow and then I make a basic adjustments in camera raw and placed a camera raw winter filter to blend the colours after that I have placed a rain overlay. That’s all.

You must be a fan of the American painter Andrew Wyeth for your country images mirror some of his best work. Without the rain and the umbrella, this could be Christina's neighbor ("Christina's World" is perhaps Andrew Wyeth's most famous painting). The girl, the marvelous tree, the animals, and the barn work together very well. For my taste, I would take out the rain and crop the top and bottom a bit. I'm a big Andrew Wyeth fan, and you certainly have his country perspective.   Posted: 05/05/2023 18:06:35

Hi Alan, thanks very much for your comments, I really appreciated them.
I didn't know Andrew Wyeth's so I have looked for information about his work and I've really enjoyed his work. I am honoured that you have found some similarity between his magnificent paintings and my compositions.   Posted: 05/12/2023 04:59:45

I saw the image without the rain in your reply to Kirsti and personally, I feel it's a big improvement. Even closer to Wyeth now!   Posted: 05/12/2023 07:12:24

Thanks Alan I though that I really like the rain but as much I look the image without it as much a like. So you are right the rain was a bit distracting element.   Posted: 05/12/2023 19:27:13

Hi Maria, another lovely harmonious country life scene with that extraordinary tree! I love the muted colors and the pale light, and the triangle of the girl and the animals works so well. I think that I agree with Alan about the rain: it would be nice to see a version without the raindrop layer, or maybe reducing its opacity slightly? - I looked up Andrew Wyeth, and you certainly have a kindred spirit there.   Posted: 05/08/2023 01:29:13

Hi Kirsti, Tanks for your nice comment I really like this tree too. I come back to the image and worked in removing the rain that it was in an early stage but I think that at the end I have achieved the same tones.   Posted: 05/12/2023 05:10:28

This is a lovely image, Maria! The colors are beautiful. The way you have the tree, the girl, the animal, and the building all in the middle third of the image makes me feel that they are all connected, and the sky and foreground give me a sense of being out in the open with lots of space and fresh air.
At first I though the branches to the left of the tree could be removed but then I saw how they give me a feeling of circular motion toward the center of the image, and softening the tree overhanging the girl.
Personally, I prefer your version without the raindrops. They were a little distracting, and it also makes me think the storm has passed, which is a more optimistic story.
I like the brightness of the sheep peeking around the corner; it would have been easy to miss if it was darker. I might consider making the geese and a bit of her umbrella a little brighter as well.   Posted: 05/14/2023 12:35:11

Thanks Peggy for your comment, at the beginning I thought that the rain was a great addiction to the image but now I agree with all of you that it looks better after the rain has passed   Posted: 05/14/2023 23:29:36

Maria, I find this image beautifully balanced with respect to the scenery and the figures. I agree the rain is a bit distracting as it doesn't appear natural. I do like the cleaner version but wonder if you could add a texture to the surface to enhance the mood.   Posted: 05/14/2023 21:39:02

Thanks brad for your comment and suggestion. I will play with textures and see what happens.   Posted: 05/14/2023 23:31:00
