About the Image(s)

I’m not 100% sure about this photo but I love the way the cactus creates a background for the photo.

Nice image - the greenery creates a perfect background for the roses! My only suggestion might have been to look for a composition with 3 roses. Odd numbers of subjects usually create greater interest - forming a triangle that keeps the viewer's gaze in the frame. Although all rules of composition are meant to be broken - in this case I think 3 roses would have been better.   Posted: 05/07/2025 19:05:09

I'd forgotten the rule of odd number of subjects, one I learned when I was painting. But, looking at my photo, I see three roses, although one is a bud. And they are in triangular shape. Or do you think 3 full blooms would be better?   Posted: 05/08/2025 01:48:24

I see the bud you refer to - in my opinion - it is not prominent enough (it's small and blends in with the greenery) to hold my attention.   Posted: 05/08/2025 07:01:42

Steven's point is well taken, but I do like how you've filled the frame here, Sue. It works fine for me, as the background plant makes for a nice background pattern.   Posted: 05/09/2025 01:59:01

Thanks. I'm happy with it, but here because I'm always looking to improve. And love to see what others notice that I haven't.   Posted: 05/09/2025 04:14:50
