I was at a loss over what photo to share as I prefer to share a current photo. I love this photo that I took to encompass the highlights of my weekend in Colorado. I spent the weekend mostly outdoors with the dog in a landscape completely unfamiliar to me, in a neighborhood that only seemed unfinished because of what I’m used to. But it does mean no one definitive subject.
I sharpened and cropped in Snapseed. Then hit auto in the native iPhone app. Realized there was a red stick at the edge of the parking area so removed that with cleanup.

It's interesting in that it has so many layers, Sue. From the mountains, to the houses, the dog, on down to the flowers. I guess the dog ends up being the subject. But to me it's more an example of composition on a vertical shot. Everything is reasonably sharp, there is no distracting blur. Posted: 08/04/2026 22:59:28
Thanks. I worried (just a little) that there was no real main subject to my photo. I like the term layered. And I like that I was able to fit so many things into the one shot. Posted: 08/21/2026 01:01:14
I agree with Jack's comments - nice image. Great layers/depth/sharpness. The soft/muted colors work well. It feels to me like the mountain in the distance is too close to the edge. If I was going to shoot this again - I might try to get lower and closer to he dog . . . . making him larger and the main subject - with the remainder of the image as background. No sure that would be better . . . there is just so much going on in this image . . . lots for my eyes to wander around and look at. I think the image is stronger/more interesting with the dog. I can't imagine this photo without the dog! And yes, totally agree with wishing that there was a bit more sky above the mountain. I will be back there in November, although I doubt we'll be spending time down at the lake on that trip, but I can try again! Posted: 08/21/2026 01:02:39

Your image is beautiful and interesting! It has many different layers that drive my focus and lead my eyes from the foreground to the further distance more and more: the daisies, the grass, the dog, the ground, the houses, the pines, the mountains, and the beautiful cloudy sky. I wonder if you want to use the dog as your main subject. He looks a bit sad and seems to be lost in the immense scene. Posted: 08/18/2026 23:44:30

I guess I was thinking I liked how "small" the dog looked out in the big mountain view! He was just hanging out while I was enjoying the outdoors. Posted: 08/21/2026 01:05:32
