About the Image(s)
My wife planted a small Hibiscus few months ago . . . it's growing like a weed and flowering (the flowers only last a day or so). I took this picture with iphone 14's macro mode. The bright sunshine helped, but still amazing that the phone could capture this level of detail outside and hand held.
Edited in LR/PS - basic color/exposure edits and finally added a blur around the periphery.

I love the edit. Amazing what iPhone macro mode can capture!   Posted: 04/02/2026 17:21:48
I used to take a lot of flower macros with my DSLR, and they're tough, because even if you use a tripod, any breeze will move the flower. But lots of fun, and this is a good one. I would never have guessed it was a hibiscus. It's sharp and detailed.   Posted: 04/03/2026 14:32:20
thanks Jack. The breeze is definitely a challenge. I got lucky with this image. The full frame macro work I did with flowers was all in my basement; I struggle to do it hand held outside. Too frustrating.   Posted: 04/03/2026 14:59:46
I agree with you all about the wonders of cell phones/cameras. The colors and sharpness are beautiful.   Posted: 04/09/2026 16:49:50
Hi Steven,
The macro photo of the flower is very sharp, and your edtiting technique is great to render it so special! The square crop and the blur around the peripheral make the image stand out. Thanks for sharing your technique!   Posted: 04/16/2026 20:32:08
