About the Image(s)
My son cooked dinner on Father's Day. He made a watermelon salad - with feta cheese and balsamic dressing. It was the highlight of the dinner! Inspired by the colors and Susan's recent cappuccino image - I took a picture.
iPhone 14. Processing - addition of slight vignette.

A good one for the season, Steven, and one of those that before phone cameras we probably wouldn't have taken. Great mix of colors. The upper left corner is a little soft, which is probably due to not holding the phone exactly perpendicular to the salad? It's minor, and I enjoy the image regardless.   Posted: 07/02/2025 22:54:35
Thank you/good catch - I missed that! Either the surface of the salad wasn't flat - or the iPhone wasn't level. Either way - something I should pay more attention to.   Posted: 07/03/2025 14:56:22
I'm glad I was able to inspire you! And I love this shot. (Love this type of salad, too.)
I think the trickiest part of food photography is holding the phone steady. Then the focusing.   Posted: 07/07/2025 01:32:26

Steven, a beautiful salad. great colors and moist. Makes one want to grab a fork and sample it.   Posted: 07/08/2025 16:40:27
Thanks Ruth. If the image looks appetizing and makes you want to dig in - I'll consider that a success.

Hi Steven,
We have had a heat wave here and yr photo of watermelon salad is so refreshing! It's a colorful dish and a good photo for a father's day souvenir!
In my personal opinion, I'd prefer to add a plate or container for food photography to enhance the artistic vision for the photograph. There is a piece of food in blue color at the bottom of the image that stands out from other colors. I am curious to know if it's the food color or the light reflection. Thanks for sharing your image!   Posted: 07/21/2025 18:01:35

Thank you - agree that adding a plate/bowl could make it more interesting; but that also makes for a more complex composition - since then I'd also need to include part of the table/surrounding. Regarding the bluish piece of lettuce - I needed to ask my wife (since we do have a blue salad bowl!) - but this was in a white corning dish. I didn't notice it - but you're correct - I suspect it's the way the overhead LED light is hitting a reddish/green piece of lettuce and the angle of that leaf.   Posted: 07/23/2025 12:39:34
An interesting capture. You're not alone trying to capture food pictures. I recently installed the Adobe Camera app, Project Indigo and have been shooting pictures in the produce section of the supermarket. The real challenge, in my opinion, is finding a center of interest. To me the yellow leaf serves the purpose. You may want to consider a slight vignette to darken the edges slightly. It's one thing that I do to almost every image.   Posted: 07/23/2025 16:21:54
Thank you! Agree a vignette would be help; especially the lower right is too bright. What's your impression of Indigo?   Posted: 07/23/2025 17:25:13
I have tried Indigo on several occasions. It is slow but that could be because of my iPhone 14 Pro. I will be posting an interior next month that in my opinion shows the full capabilities of the technology.   Posted: 07/23/2025 17:47:33
I look forward to your Indigo images . . . I also have the iPhone 14 pro - which feels "new" - but I just looked it up and it's 3 years old.

OK,it looks good enough to eat! Like the complementary colors of green and red,and yellow and violet.I can accept the softness of the left corner because it probably had more balsamic dressing?   Posted: 07/28/2025 01:05:33
