This image was captured this week in Washington DC. I intended to photograph the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin area but they already passed the peak bloom time after heavy rains several days before. When I passed by the Washington monument, the purple-pink flowers of the Eastern Redbud trees there captured my attention (I am not sure if it’s the correct tree’s name?). I did have my DSLR with 18-400mm but I found that the iphone is super helpful with wide angle to capture the whole scene in this case. I purposely used the big tree and its shadows to frame the Washington monument. All comments are truly appreciated.

I just had to comment right after posting this, it's such a beautiful image Kiev-Hahn. It's the wide angle that makes it special for me. And the framing of the tree, the shadows, the color. I was thinking it must be one of those known places where photographers gather, but it sounds like you found this on your own, kudos!   Posted: 04/02/2025 22:13:51

I like the framing of the Washington Monument by the barren tree. The purple-pink flowers give the scene a Spring vibe! On the other hand they obscure part of the monument. So many great photo ops in Washington!   Posted: 04/08/2025 08:35:53

As I just wrote with regard to another photo, I love trees framing an image. This works perfectly. The actual tree on top and on the side and the shadow of the tree on the bottom. This screams springtime in Washington, D.C.   Posted: 04/12/2025 01:32:38

Kieu-Hanh, The wide angle is good for this beautiful image. The framing with the tree and shadows are well done. A lovely spring time picture.   Posted: 04/13/2025 21:36:31
