Winter Clouds by Susan Pellegrino

March 2025 - Winter Clouds

About the Image(s)

On a recent trip to the beach, the sky and clouds made for an excellent subject to photograph.

I used the auto edit on the iPhone but it might have made the photo too grainy. The sky was this blue.

It's got that deep blue sky that we used to have to use a polarizing filter to achieve; now much easier on the phone! Also has nice clouds, too.

I'm thinking what others will probably be asking, where was this taken?   Posted: 03/15/2025 11:39:20

This was part of a twosome that I took. Facing south, the sky was bright blue. Facing north, the sky was gray! It was a relatively cold windy winter day.

And the photo was taken in St. Augustine, Florida.   Posted: 03/15/2025 12:33:09

Love the color of the sky - also your composition that allows the sky to occupy most of the image. Interesting clouds as well. I'm guessing you took this with your phone's wide angle lens - resulting in a great expanse of view - but introducing distortion. Although some may find that distortion attractive/part of the desired aesthetic, I find it distracting/artificial and tend to prefer more conventional images.   Posted: 03/16/2025 11:43:24

Yes, Steven. It was taken at 24mm, trying to get a big sky vision. I do understand what you mean about distortion. My goal was to get as much of the cloud as I could possibly get without thinking of much else.   Posted: 03/16/2025 15:51:01

If you used the iPhone's wide angle lens - it's usually wider than 24mm.   Posted: 03/17/2025 10:50:27

Am I reading this wrong? Or what does this mean?   Posted: 03/17/2025 10:55:11

You are 100% correct! 24mm. Looked wider vs what I'm used to - but it is shot at 24mm.   Posted: 03/17/2025 11:02:31

I've noticed sky (and) perceptions can be deceiving.   Posted: 03/17/2025 11:09:17

Hi Susan,
Nice shot with good composition choice that shows the interesting clouds in winter! At first, I thought that the dark areas below the clouds are the mountains but they are houses. I'd prefer to lighten up those areas more.   Posted: 03/28/2025 09:37:23

Interesting observation! I think I agree!   Posted: 03/28/2025 17:36:59
