I like the image as you show the elephant in its habitat. I can feel the enormity of the elephant and the heat in the surroundings looking at the photo. Great photo!   Posted: 05/10/2023 16:33:09
I should have added that I was driving. Now that I look at it on this screen I should have toned down the highlights a bit.   Posted: 05/10/2023 22:00:10
The level at which it was shot emphasizes the size of the elephant.
Was the light coming from the back right of the elephant?   Posted: 05/11/2023 18:04:41

Apparently, I didn't change the lighting direction. I hardly changed anything. Should maybe have worked it a bit more.   Posted: 05/12/2023 10:26:33
OK, for starters...I love these Gentle Giants! There is a 4 part series on Elephants on Nat Geo that was fantastic! Recently released. They are such unique creatures and so family oriented. They grieve for their lost pack members.
I love the title which accurately describes how everyone there treats elephants. Perhaps you could tone it down a bit, but I found the light is always so bright in Africa that I often had to tone things down a bit. Where in Africa were you when you took this? And you were driving? Braver than I for sure.
Overall the composition is very nice, shows off the elephant (and those beautiful tusks) and the road acts a really nice leading line into the elephant. I think its a keeper!   Posted: 05/15/2023 15:38:58

Botswana, on our way to Nata Bird Refuge. Got 2 speeding tickets on the way, so wallet considerably lighter when we got there. A wonderful place to see wildlife though, especially flamingos.   Posted: 05/15/2023 16:48:51
Botswana is one of the spots I would like to try. Was not crazy about Tanzania, though it was a great trip, not one I would do again. Kenya, would certainly consider again, with a side trip to Botswana. Maybe one of these days!   Posted: 05/16/2023 12:53:30
I wonder is a black and white version would be more powerful and eliminate the distraction created by the tusks reaching the background tree. I like the movement created by the elephant's legs towards the path. it's hard to shoot when the light maybe harsh, but you did the most you could given the conditions. I like it overall. It creates a sense of place as well.   Posted: 05/15/2023 15:53:07
