About the Image(s)

I shot this from Grants Park in Ventura Ca. I was about 200' above launch point. My drone is Authel Nano plus. I added the clean light templet from Luminar and made the crop for effect.

ISO= 100 6.67mm= focal length, EV= 0, F =1.9 and SS= 1/4200

Hi Alex, as we've already emailed, welcome to the group. This is a nice, moody look at downtown Ventura. But if it is to be about the pier I think you are just too far away for an effective image. And for sure the drone should have been a little to left, so the hotel building isn't impinging part of the pier.

General comment: Since the drones have a wide, fixed focal length -- usually around 24mm -- when planning shots I've found you have to figure on being must be much closer to the subject than you might otherwise think. I think there are drone restrictions near the coast in this area so maybe in this case that wasn't possible? Hope this helps

Yes Pete,
I agree I am very bad at tittles. This shoud have been, Vetura from above, or Ventura peir from afar. I went to take pictures of the cross at Grants park but liked this image of Ventura best. I am still having a hard time framming pictures. It is very hard to see any good image on my cell phone scene outside when I am trying to keep line of sight. I will keep practicing improvement is on the horizon.
Thanks again it realy helps,
Alex

Hi Alex, I think titles are quite difficult. I like your image, I think that you have composed and cropped it very well. To me the haze gives it a very moody feel. I hope that you like this group, we get to see some great images and learn things as well.   Posted: 05/10/2023 11:20:43

Thanks Lou,
I am a true beginner. I joined a local photo club and Pete has my interest on learning drone/landscape photography. I signed up for my first class in PSA. I hope to improve my skills. I realy enjoy getting out and seeing new things. Any advice is good for me.
Thanks for your reply,

Hi Alex, to me the problem with your image as mentioned above is the title. The image itself is a good view of the coastline - a favorite subject for me as well.

If you wanted to focus more on the pier, you could try Lightroom Classic's Supersize or something like Topaz GigaPixel to get closer to the pier. You might be able to get away with doing that for displaying a screen.   Posted: 05/10/2023 13:30:59

Hi Alex, welcome. It is difficult to be the 4th commenter as everything was said I wanted to say. If you could fly closer to the pier it would be an additional advantage not having the big building "touching" the pier. But comparing to the original image you did a great work in post-processing.   Posted: 05/11/2023 10:18:37

Thanks Janos,
I think the title has been changed to Ventura from Above, The peir caught my eye but, the photo is of the city of Ventura. I was not trying to photograph te peir. I just liked the light with the fog, more of a mood than a story.
Thanks again all imput is welcome,

Hey Alex… welcome again. So glad that you joined our group and hope you learn from us here. Give me an email next time to change your title too. I like the fog. Good quote for regular photography and drone photography… by Robert Capa, "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough." Fly that drone closer!   Posted: 05/24/2023 09:18:58
