About the Image(s)

Hi, this was shot on a light board using continual exposure compensation. A total of nine images were used ranging from two stops under to two spots over at f-32 (to help draw out translucency). After cropping (I had this humorous idea in mind) I then experimented with backgrounds in Affinity Photo and once I decided on black I popped the color luminosity in the tulips to make them stand out. It’s still a work in progress and I’d love to know your thoughts and ideas. Shot with a Sony A7rm3 and a Tokina 100 mm macro.

This is a nice image. I am unsure of the center flower. Basically I am unsure of how I feel about it in the composition. Overall it is nice because it is in the center but it is not completely in the shot and so I am unsure how I feel about it. Beyond that you have a great photo the colors are lovely and the detail is beautiful. I think that it would be interesting to see how it would look if all flowers were completely in the shot.   Posted: 05/15/2023 14:26:19

Rich this is a fun idea. Popping the colour luminosity works so well, these flowers glow. Using a black background is a good choice to offset that light and colour. I think the composition is a bit off. his seems to be about not only colour but a little bit of symmetry. As such the crop leaves the viewer wondering why you chopped the middle flower off ant the top - which works well in the original to break the solid line of the tops of the petals. Additionally the eye wants to see all of the leaves on both the left and right sides of the composition. If you were to do it again, include all of the elements with room around everything to would allow for more creative cropping. Nice work.   Posted: 05/16/2023 08:26:10

Rich, Wow what a beautiful image. It's taking a light pad (board) image and really making it pop. I think it is the multiple images and getting perfect focus and fantastic translucency that makes it work. I'm going to give that a try someday. The idea of the tall one getting chopped is perfect. Did you lay down the tulips on the board or prop up the board so the tulips were standing in front of the board?

Hi Rich, I agree with Bob, this is a beautiful image and I really like how the light is through not just the petals but also through the foliage. The centre works for me.   Posted: 05/20/2023 06:21:23

Wonderful effect. The center obviously cuts the image in two which does not work for me, though I can see where others may like it. What light board do you use?   Posted: 05/20/2023 14:41:22
