About the Image(s)

This photo was captured in a small town, Lewiston, New York. A camera club field trip took us to explore and capture the town. I created the monochrome version in ⬓Silver Effects Pro⬠of the Nik Collection.

Mary, the Town of Lewiston was formed in 1818 being the first European settlement in Western New York when a French explorer arrived in 1615. It is located in Niagara County, New York. You are presenting us a house backyard garden, which I find more interesting in the color version, since we can appreciate the variety of vegetation. I made the vertical lines straight.   Posted: 05/09/2023 08:00:28

Yes, I had corrected the horizon in my monochromatic version. I agree that the color version is more eye-catching.   Posted: 05/09/2023 18:58:10

Mary, what a fun place for a photo walk. For me the garden and shed/house are the subject and the color version draws my attention to it more than the B/W image. Also possibly cropping in closer to the garden's edge and popping the color a bit might add more emphasis on the garden and the shed/house. Just a thought...   Posted: 05/10/2023 10:26:19

Mary, I agree with Barbara and Isaac and prefer the color version. Barbara's version also eliminates the bright sky in the background without eliminating any important things. Bruce   Posted: 05/11/2023 11:32:26

Hi Mary, what a beautiful to loss and find nice places like this. I have to agree with the other about the colour version and the crop but I love to playing with black and white images This is my version using layers to paint light and shadows after that I place a filter of Nick collection analog efex pro and removing the effect in the areas that I didn't like.   Posted: 05/12/2023 06:58:41

Thanks for offering your monochrome version. There are so many ways that we can interpret images when working with layers.   Posted: 05/12/2023 08:47:43

Mary, I often go through Lewiston when my husband and I visit Niagara-on-the-Lake. It is a delightful town. As I stare at your image, I find myself wondering about the person who might have lovingly planted the flowers. I am especially drawn to the shelf with the birdhouses and the window box. Again, a story emerges in my mind about the person who lives here. I agree with the suggestions re: keeping the image in color because it helps me to envision the story forming in my mind.   Posted: 05/13/2023 12:05:07

Thanks for those memories. Lewiston is a great town to stroll around with a camera.   Posted: 05/13/2023 17:08:48

Before I read other comments, I concluded what a great idea the mono conversion is and I still do. I don't see the garden area as being very interesting, either photographically or for a gardening perspective. In mono, the viewer sees the detail around the window and other ornaments which are lost within the colour.

As a gardener, the architectural strength of the planting comes out better in mono. In colour, there isn't to me much interest in the scene but it's a pleasing mono image.   Posted: 05/20/2023 16:49:25
