Kampong Chan - Cambodia by Geoff Wiggins, FAPS

September 2023 - Kampong Chan - Cambodia

About the Image(s)

The pic was taken at Kampong Chan Cambodia. It is of a fishing village at dusk. In the background is the Ko Pain Bamboo Bridge. A long bridge that is made of an incredible number of bamboos. It is demolished each year and the rebuilt later in the year.

Nice image - certainly tells a story. I can't imagine the amount of work needed to build bridges like this one every year.
Nice cropping and use of the "rule of 1/3 rds". The perfect time of the day - orange hour - certainly adds to the appeal.
I would have liked a more interesting sky! Maybe I am a purist, but I was wondering if anyone in this group tried sky-swapping?

Great Image and indeed love this style of documentary photography.
Love the different colours blue and orange at the village.
Also the dynamic of the people walking on the bridge, very long row is triggering my interest to keep looking and searching.
Timing is perfect like Pierre said orange hour.

I use sometimes the sky swapping but most of the time I use it in combination with a digital trick for long exposure feeling.

And of course in Nature competition you can't use this then.

I like you make it panoramic. My only suggestion is to make it a bit warmer to induce more feeling of Asian ethnicity. Nice work Geoff.   Posted: 09/20/2023 03:01:32

Hi Geoff- I've been to Cambodia several times and have seen several fishing villages like this on the Mekong and other rivers, so this brings back some warm memories! I also like the pano image which gives a more wholistic feel to the village and its surroundings. Like Pierre, I also wished it had a more interesting sky- and maybe, a little more sky. I amended the picture just a bit to both increase the amount of sky and also swapped it for a blue sky with some clouds, which seems to complement the scene. Anyway, I'm glad you found and shared this shot- it really stirs the emotions.   Posted: 09/20/2023 18:00:59
