About the Image(s)
This old train car parked with a caboose on a siding in Hartwell, GA was used on an excursion train.
When we arrived in for our Abandoned in GA tour with Jim Zuckerman, I realized that the Sony 6300, which I had brought but hadn’t used on a couple of months, was not functioning. So all my photos were taken with my new iPhone 14 Pro. I cropped and straightened this and converted it to monochrome with NIK.

You have an interesting and certainly well defined view that is sharp throughout the scene. It certainly tells the story of decay and makes one wonder about the many riders that sat on these seats through its active year. This image might look better to me in color. I feel it is tonally a bit flat and that some curve adjustment or increase slightly in contract might enhance the image.   Posted: 05/12/2023 13:52:13
Thank you for your suggestion, John. I have given it a bit more contrast here, but I think it looks more dusty and forlorn without it.   Posted: 05/29/2023 19:14:56
A most interesting shot, with lots of perspective. A great finishing touch would be to have something in the far doorway?   Posted: 05/13/2023 09:55:30
Thanks for the suggestion, Don. I'm submitting it to my club with a person in the doorway.   Posted: 05/29/2023 18:25:28
An interesting contrast to Stan's image! Yor phone has done a good job, I think.
I would agree with John and Don's comments (althoughI think mono is probably better, but I've aired my mono vs colour "rule" before).
I would also rotate it a few degrees anticlockwise, and maybe crop 10% off the bottom to avoid the close details drawing my eye.   Posted: 05/16/2023 14:53:38

Thanks for your suggestion, Stuart. I rotated it and realized that the detail in the foreground distracted the eye from moving toward the back, where, for my club submission, there is now a person silhouetted in the doorway.   Posted: 05/29/2023 18:29:22
I like the idea of the silhouette, it looks good on the thumbnail. However, on the large view, it looks a bit false to me. It's grey, but in that situation I think darker would be correct. Also it seems to be leaning to our right, and has no arms (perhaps they are behind the person's back?) but the legs look like it's walking.

For my club, I made it darker. Still without arms.   Posted: 05/30/2023 09:55:47
You have made effective use of the leading lines and graphical elements. I like the slow "going back to mother earth" theme too.   Posted: 05/19/2023 09:24:20
The thing that grabs me the most is the texture especially in the seating. It also has a lovely luminosity; the caboose is just so filled with light and it provides strong modelling bringing out all the detail in the luggage racks, ceiling, floor and so on. The inclusion of a person seated somewhere in the image may have added a strong dynamic. Square format suits. Lucky you had the iphone as backup. The quality of phone pics is getting better and better. A bit more ooomph in the contrast I think would give it a lift.   Posted: 05/22/2023 05:43:52
