About the Image(s)

This is a different and sentimental entry for me this month and has been submitted in memory of Arnold.
The image was taken on an empty golf course (because of the weather!!) with a Nikon Coolpix 990 3.34 megapixels which somehow had been converted to Infra Red and had belonged to Arnold and must have been his original IR camera before he got his Nikon D70 converted.
I got the camera as a souvenir and have tried messing about with it, although so far I have not figured out how to change the aperture or convert it to a Tiff which according to the Manual I downloaded you can do. Also the images come out Mono as you can see and not the usual pink colour. As you will also see I have mucked up the original in trying to get rid of overhanging branches, and cannot get back to the original on my computer somehow. Because it is winter here, no foliage to show IR effect except for grass. But here goes.

Used Nik Silver Ef X to get a decent Mono. and cropped image from Right getting rid of figure and also a crop from the base. The small hump near the far tree was cloned out.
Used Levels to get a decent histogram and then B/C to brighten things up a bit.
Selected a tone in Nik then in PS picked up the colour of tone as near as possible and used a graduated filter on right to tone down the bright area there, using opacity to try and even things out a bit.
Finally used a little sharpening to highlight the trees.
I know this will not print to any great size, but have printed it out on A5 art paper which I am pleased with, perhaps for obvious reasons!

Helen this is a beautiful image and a fitting tribute to Arnold. I feel certain that he would have approved. The image benefits from its simple composition and lovely toning. I also like the moody sky. The only suggestion I can make is to maybe crop out the bushes/trees on the far left as I find my eye drawn to these by the vehicle tracks in front of them. However this is only a minor distraction.   Posted: 01/13/2018 12:03:37

I like pictures of trees and if this was in a competition and I was judging, it would get a very high ranking. It is the simplicity that is appealing as the height of the tall trees on the right angle down and direct the viewer to the smaller fully leafed trees on the left side. The sky condition is perfect as the tall trees stand out against it but there is also a variation in the cloud formation that has an interest, although small, that compliments the tree arrangement. Toning the image makes for a "softer" rendition which I like very much.   Posted: 01/17/2018 08:52:25

This image has a "minimalist" feel for me - an effect I always like. I think the toning really enhances it. Trees are often difficult to present in a way that captures and holds the viewer's attention, but you have succeeded in my opinion.   Posted: 01/21/2018 12:57:24

Very nice, I like the processing and white border.
Simple look with the tall trees.
I would crop off a little from the left.   Posted: 01/23/2018 16:03:08
