About the Image(s)

Gone Is the Station Master - Rockdale Texas: Once the center of the Cotton Belt this was a busy location for freight and people with all the commercial travelers coming by train through this station. It has been restored by the locals. I flipped it horizontally and converted it by rubbing it with Pixie Dust to make it look like an Etching. (A Pen and Ink transformation.)

I'm not sure why you need such a strong filter effect. Would this not have worked well as a contrasty mono image with the leading lines of the rails and the focal point of the tower? The original colours would also have helped this as there is a red in 3 places. You said you flipped horizontally but the original is the same way -is this an intermediate original?   Posted: 05/02/2023 04:17:48

flipped: Yes, Intermediate image.
It would have worked, as would a lot of other alternatives. My objective was to create a faux Etching.   Posted: 05/02/2023 06:10:36

In which case, you did what you intended to do.   Posted: 05/02/2023 11:58:41

Do you like the composition?   Posted: 05/02/2023 12:50:13

I like the composition very much, the arrangement of the buildings and the diagonally receding tracks. I noticed you had the dome top exactly meet the top of the frame, with your slight cropping. I am equally divided on the cropping. The original had a more emphatic line of the tracks, but the closer cropping is a tighter composition.
I am not a fan of filter effects, but this is quite effective, not overdone.   Posted: 05/02/2023 19:57:48

Yes, I like the diagonals and the subject on the left with the tower as a focal point. Should you have included the top of the tower?   Posted: 05/11/2023 06:39:23

I was going to make that same comment, but see it's here already.   Posted: 05/23/2023 00:06:45

You're right on that.

So I assume it isn't in the frame of the original?   Posted: 05/13/2023 08:56:17

It's in the original. I don't recall why or how it got truncated. Should be included.

Maybe give it a little bit of room at the top so the pinnacle of the red dome is not chopped off and to the left where the tip of the sloping roof is just cut off. Otherwise nice composition, and I like the etching effect.   Posted: 05/11/2023 21:26:08

Reversing the image was a good choice. I like the composition and the crop (it looks like the top is in the crop). The etching is a bit strong for my liking, but you are the artist.   Posted: 05/13/2023 09:01:33

I like the rail lines and the lone caboose to the side of the station. I'd perhaps crop a bit off the bottom to avoid having the rail line coming right into the corner, but that's a personal preference. The tight crop at the top Diana already mentioned above. I'm not a big fan of the strong faux etching effect, but I believe this was a good choice of subjects for it.
