About the Image(s)

This photo was taken during a trip to a beach near San Francisco, CA March 2022. I liked the composition and the walking towards the ocean of my friend’s grandson, but I did not like the color version. The mono conversion also let me set a mood I was looking for.
Looking forward to your comments!
Canon R5, RF24-105 @105mm, f/16, 1/800 sec, ISO 500. Handheld with polarizing filter. RAW image processing in Ps, mono conversion with Silver Efex Pro 3 custom settings and a little sepia tone.

Really great, Michael! What I like most is the play of mirror and shadow. The sepia tone is super - would like to see it in black/white scale only. So the sky is not really cloudy, the sepia tone turned it to dark. It's a great contrast to the white waves and the dark foreground! Well done!

Michael your color image is great but the mono version is even better. I feel the sepia tone accentuates the feeling of loneliness of the subject. My only suggestion is to consider cropping some off the sky to emphasize the subject more and perhaps to lighten the sky somewhat.   Posted: 05/06/2023 06:13:19

Thank you both for your observations, much appreciated. I agree the sky is somewhat dark and cropping should be tried. The shadow/reflection may be highlighted a little. I will work on the image and see where it goes.   Posted: 05/06/2023 07:20:24

Having recently scanned thousands of family photos going back four generations, I found I really value images like this. Your processing gives it a timeless quality that the original lacks in my opinion. This would print beautifully.   Posted: 05/06/2023 14:19:22

Henry, I will be printing the image for my friend in CA. I have more images from this day that I will be reviewing for mono.   Posted: 05/11/2023 08:31:38

Good image and translation into monochrome.

I like the sepia tone and the darker sky. To me, the vastness of the sky is part of the story of a small boy against the ocean. I am fine with the darker sky, but suggest darkening the reflection 1/4 stop to emphasize it more.

Good image!

Jim B, I did try a few changes and I do like the sky darker. I am working on other images as well.

Thank you for the suggestions!
