About the Image(s)

Near Toledo Ohio is Sauder Village which has a recreation of a 1920 village. One of the buildings is an old log cabin in which a lady was shelling beans. The cabin has two rooms and front and rear doors. I photographed the scene using a wide angle lens (15 mm) at 1/8 second, at f/7.1 and ISO at 200. The lighting was from the rear open door and a small light bulb which illuminated part of the back wall. I think my original color image is pretty good but I feel the numerous items in the cabin are somewhat distracting. So, in Photo Shop I straightened some of the diagonal lines, darkened the floor and back wall and converted the image to mono. I feel my mono image conveys more of the feeling of an earlier time.

What shall I say? The white part in the midst shows the main story of the picture - surrounded by all the things may be needed, but not rated as a main part. Did you know how the picture will be in black/white while taking the photo in color? Very good eye and take!   Posted: 05/04/2023 09:03:02

I did not consider the image as a possible mono version when I photographed the scene.   Posted: 05/06/2023 06:42:32

Great image Jim. I need to work with my wide angle lens more and understand what is needed in post with these lenses especially using them in rooms and with different subjects. (It is not just for landscape). I like what you did in post processing, and with the conversion.   Posted: 05/06/2023 08:21:46

Nicely done, Jim. The processing works well, and I think you successfully created the "old-timey" feel this image needed. The only issue is that the image is too sharp! You just don't get that kind of detail in an old-fashioned photo.   Posted: 05/06/2023 14:40:06

Excellent image, Jim.

Eliminating the rightness of the background appropriately puts the emphasis on the subject, however, to me, the background appears hazy or lacking contrast, which seems different than the treatment of the subject.

Overall, an excellent image!
