About the Image(s)

This image was taken in Havana on my trip there in 2007.

After cropping to the composition I wanted, I applied the Nik Glamour Glow filter and used a layer mask to bring the detail back in the two men’s faces, hands, newspaper, cigar and stick. Viveza was then used to adjust the lighting to the way I wanted it and the Clone tool was used to remove minor distractions. A texture, which is a shot of a light layer of snow on our frozen garden pond, was added in a new layer and the opacity was reduced to 26%. I used the Levels filter to adjust the overall lighting in the image and the image was sharpened using High-Pass filter.

You don't miss a trick David. I would never have thought of adding a layer of snow as a texture to this image but it certainly does tone down the incidentals of the BG. I think everything is right in this image, I particularly like the emphasis on those items you brought to the forefront with a layer mask. The man with his hand up to his face is so deliberate that one would think he is turning from the photographer so without the title one might take a different perspective on the image. I find the dress sartorially splendid, almost of another age, the flower in his buttonhole, the huge cigar, the whiteness of the clothes, the elegance of the walking sticks, the beautiful white hats, the brown and white shoes, the black shoes so polished all with the contrast of sitting on the pavement. Well done David.   Posted: 03/02/2019 10:44:18

David, once again you've taken a good but ordinary photograph and turned it into something extraordinary. The textures in the image are very appealing to me. The layer of snow adds a soft grain that ties all of the image components together. Very nicely done!   Posted: 03/09/2019 05:52:33

Visiting from group 48. This image screamed Cuba to me the minute I opened it. Extremely well done and a probable winner in any street photography contest or exhibition.   Posted: 03/19/2019 15:43:12

You did a lot of nice work on this image; the Glamour Glow filter worked very well; I would have liked to see the man in white uniform's face. Your texture addition was a nice touch.   Posted: 03/20/2019 16:26:04
