December 2025 - A posie

About the Image(s)

For those who saw a different image from me a few days ago - sorry! I uploaded one I'd used previously, and Mike spotted it soon after. So I took it down, and have replaced it with this.

This would never appeal to a judge, but somehow I find it interesting. It's not strictly a macro, but uses a macro technique, if I can claim that.

It was taken at Penrhyn Castle in North Wales in the summer. All of these historic properties have interesting objects in them, usually in low light. I can't resist a challenge, so I tried a stack on this posie of flowers on a table, stacking to keep the background in focus to give context. Reaching over a barrier, my original was a bit wonky, so a bit of processing was needed to straighten, deal with the massively over-exposed light, and crop off excess. Using a wide-angle lens give a good view of the background, but I don't know of any 17mm (34mm full frame) ones!

OM Systems OM-1, 1/8 sec, f1.8, ISO 1000, Olympus 17mm f1.8 lens, a bracket of 7 photos, hand held. Stacked in Helicon Focus, processed in Affinity 3.

Lovely homey scene! I would like to see the rest of the flowers on the right side. Perhaps the original has that portion in? The lighting looks good.   Posted: 12/12/2025 00:23:40

No. alas it didn't. I was with a party and had had a couple of goes to get the shot I wanted, but this was the best. I was holding the camera out at arm's length over a rope barrier, and didn't want to risk the wrath of the room "custodian" (a volunteer to help the visitors) by stepping over it. These people pounce on visitors doing that!   Posted: 12/13/2025 21:40:29

Stuart, interesting take. And I like background as context. I agree that the cut off right side tends to grab the attention - but the challenge of taking the image is now clear!   Posted: 12/18/2025 21:55:34
