About the Image(s)
Here's my image for July...along with the original for comparison. Settings were ISO500, f3.5 on my Zuiko 60mm Macro lens, 1/2500 for handholding and crouching, LOL. I selectively brightened, cloned out some lighter areas, smart sharpened in PS and burned and dodged a bit, added a detail extractor in NIK Color Effex 7.
I loved the way the leaves ed expressively on this quite ordinary flower.

Lovely detail, Carol.
Why did you leave the leaf in? I would have done a bit of gardening first.   Posted: 07/06/2025 20:41:40

The main flower part is very nice. I would prefer to see the leaf left out. You might be able to clone it out but that would be a lot of work.   Posted: 07/07/2025 06:14:07
Okay, since both of you asked about the leaf, I saw a presentation by Mike Moats where he talked about a regular old flower image, vs. one that was interesting because of a pose, a leaf position, etc. I loved this because of the leaf--it looks like a human with their hand by the side of their mouth, whispering sotto voce with a secret. Perhaps my title didn't really work. You know, Oh My! as in "what a reveal!" I do think I could perhaps have gotten the leaf sharper, but then it would have equal weight with the flower head itself, which is not what I wanted. The flower head should still have greater weight than the "arm" (the leaf).   Posted: 07/10/2025 18:06:35
Hi Carol, the flower is quite colorful and the center is interesting. But I am also ambivalent about the leaf. I see your point about adding a creative feature to a basic flower image, and in that context maybe it could be sharper to distinguish that leaf from the others showing up in the lower right side.

I agree...the leaf is too out of focus. This may be one that was fun to try but just a throwaway in the end. It happens, lol!!   Posted: 07/21/2025 00:51:58
