About the Image(s)
This is an ice crystal taken on my barn window, north side. We had almost no precipitation all winter but with the cold weather these crystals formed on the north windows of our unheated barn. I cropped the photo some, added a little blue tint.
ISO 640, f 2,8, 1/80 shutter speed, taken with my Canon R5 and 100mm Canon 100mm lens.

I love this, a beautiful result, Margaret. The peripheral arms of some crystals make me look all around and also highlight the slightly lighter star of the show in the centre. The backgound is delightfully simple, its slightly changing shade and depth make it an interesting, smooth foil to the sharpness of the crystals. Crystal sharp, too. Absolutely ace, well done.   Posted: 03/06/2025 16:18:02

Margaret, What a wonderful capture! It makes me cold just looking at it. I love the blue tint. Blue is a cold color and adding the tint accentuates the coldness that ignites and transfers a feeling of coldness to my bones. Brrrr! Whites can be difficult to photograph as they are easy to over expose. The light range in this image is nicely done, or as some might say, "in the Zone." I like how you've composed the image. Rather than just having a crystal in the middle, you've added interest by including parts of other crystals around the boarder. I don't have suggestions for improvement. The images as is, is just lovely.   Posted: 03/08/2025 10:15:13

Love it - looks like a painting. And the blue tint really enhances it, as others have mentioned. I guess you took the shot handheld - which is impressive to me - particularly at 1/80. I have same camera and lens but find it hard to achieve such sharpness.   Posted: 03/17/2025 09:59:37

I steadied my elbow against the wall by the window. It is tough sometimes to hold it steady. Thanks for your comments!   Posted: 03/17/2025 11:12:27

lovely crystals - great subject for a macro photo. great that made the background blue it really says COLD. I think it works that you have the 1 whole crystal in the middle but surround it with fragments of other crystals - they enhance rather than steal the show of the main crystal.   Posted: 03/22/2025 17:48:09
