Last month I tried some of the water drop I started in pandemic times…. Did not accomplish any good one. This month I moved on to milk painting. I struggled with it being bright enough but I also like the darker/deep tones.
Nikon D750 Nikon micro 105mm, ISO500, 1/30, f13. Tripod with horizontal bar for camera. Natural light set up on my back alleyway on a rainy day.
Decreased shadows around both blue and red. Small increase in exposure for red. Small decrease in BLACKS for red. No cropping. No stacking just single photo.
MILK PAINTING - wilton cake colors diluted in water. Plate of milk then dropped red and blue spots in different patterns. Had variations. For this one it was blue, then red, then blue again. I stuck with 2D milk painted - drops seemed more complicated to catch, need to work up to it.

I never heard of this but I guess it's bit like dropping paint in water photography. I like the blue with white streaks. The red looks muddy and I don't think it adds to hte blue. Perhaps a crop might help. I've seen some nice photos of acrylic paint dropped into a vase of water and the swirls photographed. Was that what you were aiming for?   Posted: 02/09/2025 19:51:59

Pat, I like the abstraction and the color combination, when I saw it I thought it looked like an ameba or a human organ! I had never heard of this technique.   Posted: 02/09/2025 23:09:16

His is a beautiful abstract…the way the red sits on the blue is intriguing. With the red being so nicely formed, it really works. The lighting gives it an other-worldly feel. I think that inner edge on the red's right side is very helpful to make the image work.   Posted: 02/10/2025 03:16:55

I'd never heard of this technique before. There's quite a bit about it in the internet, eg https://www.sciencefun.org/kidszone/experiments/milk-art/ I can see that there's unlimited opportunity to getabstract patterns this way. I like this one. I might be tempted to mess with it in post. How about ....   Posted: 02/12/2025 21:44:18

This photo had a title that was missed: TELOPHASE... part of the cell cycle duplicating and dividing. This looked like almost the last step of when the chromosomes are pulled to opposite poles and are splitting into 2 separate spheres = Blue. Milk painting I just made up as I was working. I have seen milk with colors added in a 3D cylinder. I put the milk on a flat plate and added the colors then swirled with a toothpick.   Posted: 02/14/2025 18:51:48
