About the Image(s)

I have been preparing to do a Zoom presentation for a camera club in the U.S. about Creative Indoor Photography. As part of it, especially since it is so wet and chilly here right now, I set this up in my kitchen: a glass bowl filled with water, a splash of milk, and acrylic paints in lieu of food coloring (which I didn't have or couldn't find). I used orange in a small jar, turquoise in the bowl. I then took a paper towel, wet it and dripped the orange solution at various speeds into the bowl. The post was mainly about removing speckles and then sharpening. Finally, I denoised it.

I have done this in the past with water only, and colorful backgrounds. I am finding my Olympus focusing problematic lately, so despite intense manual focusing, I still see softness, but that may be the milk effect. Lighting was done with solid sources and some additional flash for some of them. I attached two because I thought the saturation was different between them and wanted input if possible.

And back where I started, with a water drop!

This is quite a contrast to Margaret's. This is much simpler, and here I think it's the colour and the tones that make this interesting, as well as the shape. I see we have a little reflection here, rather like Margaret's does. But both results are great, to me.

Now, where did I put my water droplets apparatus? ......

They are very similar. I like the one you posted more as it is softer in the splash/bowl part but both are nice. I like the colors. Squeezing a wet towel sounds hard to time. I used a baggie and once I had it hung from the stand that usually holds a reflector I put a tiny hole in the bottom with a needle. That left my hands free to work the camera and adjust things.   Posted: 01/06/2025 19:30:34

Yes, I've used that method and also an IV drip. I was lazy this time and couldn't push evenly on my syringe.   Posted: 01/06/2025 21:39:04
