About the Image(s)
This was taken with my Leica Q camera, 28.0 mm, f1.7. It is a Spider Mum at the New York Botanical Garden last year. The ISO was 200, at 35 mm, f4, at 1/160 of a second.

Cute photo. Like how the pieces of mum peek in from all sides. Looks good in B&W.   Posted: 11/10/2024 02:19:35

Hi John I really like this image and the B&W is perfect. It is very sharp and I love the black background. On a separate topic - would be curious to know how you like the Leica Q for macro shots ( I understand is a fixed 28mm lens? ).   Posted: 11/13/2024 22:11:05

Yes, I think the peripheral petals from outside the frame take this from "just another flower photo" to something unique, which is great. The mono adds too, I do like macro mono, taking advantage of mono attributes (shape, texture, simplicity, avoidance of colour distractions). Your 28mm lens has given a decent depth of field at this distance, even at f4.   Posted: 11/14/2024 07:50:09

B&W kind of pops! I think of it as taken environmentally.... of course other flowers are next to it and in the photo...I like the distraction of the other partial petals.   Posted: 11/20/2024 04:12:42

Normally I'm not a huge fan of black-and-white but this works! It has wonderful crispness and contrast, yet it also has simplicity going for it. The one additional flower that is touching your main subject disturbs me, but the others don't. They almost tell a story with their inclusion. I really think this is a nice image!   Posted: 11/20/2024 06:37:59
