IMPERMANENCE #3 by Gloria Grandolini

October 2024 - IMPERMANENCE #3

About the Image(s)

This is another potential image for my impermanence series - juxtaposing life and death in nature.

I saw this bright red leaf while hiking in Cape Cod and it caught my eyes, as it was alone in the middle of dead leaves.

Shot with Canon EOS 80D with tripod.
0.3 sec at f/11 ISO100
100 mm (EF 100 f/2.8 MACRO IS USM)

In Lightroom I applied 50% Denoise, and I applied some dehaze and adjusted exposure and whites and blacks.

Here in the UK it's the time for the autumn colours to come out best (I guess that's true there too). I am in Scotland on holiday at the moment, and the colours in some of the glens are jaw-droppingly beautiful.

Your colours are rivetting, too. The contrast and story are very clear. I like the composition and the subject.

I would lighten the red leaf a little and darken the brown ones, especially at the top where the very light brown leaves are a bit eye-pulling.

Why not get your macro lens up to 1:1 and photo those silver-coloured spots on the red leaf? That's not for your project perhaps, but might be a dramatic photo.   Posted: 10/07/2024 20:03:56

Thank you Stuart - very useful comments. And I agree on your last point - maybe that is the photo I want!   Posted: 10/12/2024 21:07:56

I have & series of imperfect flowers I thought of collecting into one essay that I would call « Life is not perfect ». Your project sounds similar. I like this overall. I would darken the light are at top, right of center.   Posted: 10/08/2024 00:33:52
