About the Image(s)
A trip to Ft. Desoto looking for flamingos was in vain, so I resorted to the local resident reddish egret who is always open to performing and having his photo taken. He prances around in shallow brackish water, spreading his wings to eliminate the glare so he can find tiny shrimp and other critters. This was noon, and a mix of storm clouds and sun. I had a hard time with the ISO on manual, having taken it off auto ISO.

Absolutely my favorite Egret! And a great shot showing off their style! They are so much fun to watch dancing. Their antics make me smile every time. And they do love to perform for the camera.
Image is sharp and clear. Do you normally shoot on auto ISO? I rarely use it because I feel like I have no control since the Sony does not tell you what ISO (just flashes up "auto") and I can't remember how the Nikon displays. If I have any wiggle room on F stop or speed I will tweak those before I tweak the ISO. In this case can't imagine you had any options. They are just too active and you need the speed and DOF.   Posted: 09/13/2023 10:14:20

Thanks so much. I find on my Nikons that auto ISO works much better than not using it. With wildlife my settings are usually M for 1/2500 or 1/3200 and f/5.6 or f8, unless there is a group of birds and I need to increase DOF. I check the histogram a lot.   Posted: 09/13/2023 12:37:41
Very nice, shot, Judy. You captured the moment perfectly. Sharing what you know about the feeding behavior of this bird is appreciated. I imagine it also helped you pre-visualize the shot, too. Good choice of aperture and shutter speed to create sharpness where you needed it and softer focus where you didn't. I would have liked too see just a tad more color, though. Did you make many adjustments in post processing? Excellent job, nonetheless.   Posted: 09/13/2023 12:58:55

Love this shot. At noon you don't have any glare on water in the photo either.
I typically have ISO on Auto as well except in bright situations like yours.

Really good image. Don't know how you could improve it. Well done.
