September 2023 - Ducks in a Row

About the Image(s)

This was taken at Wakodahatchee Wetlands earlier this year on a perfectly beautiful morning. this is a Teal Duck and her ducklings which she was taking to teach how to find food. I just happen to encounter her first thing in the morning.

Taken with Sony A1 and Sony 100-400mm lens (4.0-5.6)
1/1250 sec.
F/14
ISO 800

Post processing was cropping , adjusting slider to lighten background a bit (using the Selection brush for background) , and running through Denosie AI .

Nice shot, Sherry. Thanks for the background on the ship. Is this in Florida? Good idea to convert to black and white to tap into the historical nature of your subject. Only technical comment is I think your shot would have benefited by a little more contrast.   Posted: 09/05/2023 17:35:49

Whoops I'll fix that. It was actually in Iceland in 2018.   Posted: 09/06/2023 15:13:11

I agree, a bit more contrast, but your choice to make it B&W is a wise one. Bit of a stretch as a nature photo?

I will put the real Nature photo in now! and my apologies.... it has been a very busy week and Ive had limited time to get things done. At least next week is easier!   Posted: 09/07/2023 12:31:54

You are definitely forgiven! What a lovely family of ducklings.
Colors and exposure very nice.
(The B&W shipwreck was nice too.)   Posted: 09/07/2023 14:51:15

Ahhhhhhh! What a great shot. Can't say enough positive things about it. This picture is technically perfect, but more importantly to the viewer it packs a lot of emotion. Anything that raises our awareness about wildlife in a way that makes you want to go join a conservation organization is powerful and positive. Time for me to renew my membership in the National Wildlife Federation. Great job!   Posted: 09/13/2023 12:33:07

Thank you John! In fact I'm active in Audubon and a local NWR near me specifically for that reason. Did you know that the Great white Egret is a symbol of the Audubon Society because 2 socialites in NY discover that the feathers they used to decorate hats (in I think early 1900's) was decimating Great Whites and they were on verge of extinction? They went on to found NY's Audubon and saved the Great White Egret.   Posted: 09/18/2023 21:26:26

Sherry, Aww! This is a lovely photo of the teal Mama with her babies. I love how they all swim close to each other and the Mom in their first few days after hatching and eventually spread out with the mother watching from a close distance.   Posted: 09/20/2023 09:42:09

In addition to the above comments, the reflections in this photo make it very special. You caught the light in almost all of the eyes. The ripples behind the babies give a wonderful sense of movement. You motivate me to get out early in the morning.   Posted: 09/22/2023 13:56:23
