Green Overload by Sherry Icardi

October 2026 - Green Overload

About the Image(s)

This was taken in the wetlands and since we are currently in the lull of August through September. All wildlife is scarce except these little critters! American Green Frog is between 1.5 to 2.5 ins. and is very close to the board walk so early morning is the time to snap them. But regardless everything is green in the shots of them. They like to hang out on the plants and snooze. Tend to be nocturnal so they are still...just finding them is the challenge unless you have a friend who is VERY good at spotting them (I do!)

Taken with my new camera Sony 7R VI. Recently released and I'm trying to learn how to use it, so these were ideal candidates. The camera is extremely easy ONCE you have it set up and pray you don't forget which buttons you've programmed ! Right now I’m sticking to using it until I get some experience with birds and other wildlife, and hopefully I'll still remember where things are on the A1!

Taken at 420mm
1/640 sec
F4.0
ISO 200

Very nice photo,Sherry! Kudos to you for finding this little guy. They are adorable. Focus and lighting have him popping out from his green environment and great bokeh.
Very curious to hear what you think of the new Sony vs a1 after you have worked with it a little more.   Posted: 10/02/2026 18:07:41

Thanks Gwen, If I ever get past the menu, I'll let you know. This was from my first time using. The few shots I've used it for have turned out great. Love the detail, it's a 68mb file , and weight is not substantially different than the a1. But they moved buttons, a different NEW battery(which means you've got to buy more batteries!) , does pre-capture and uses same cards as a1. The real test will be when our birds come back and I can try inflight. Let you know then. I had an old a7r4 that was my backup and I knew I needed a new backup for my February trip to Kenya. So I felt like I needed to use it before then for comfort, don't want to lose a unique shot from unfamiliarity!   Posted: 10/02/2026 19:59:13

Very nice, Sherry. I love the way this little frog blends in so well with the background and the way the color pops in this image. Nice soft background helps your subject stand out well. So does your clean composition and crisp focus. I really get a sense of how well-adapted this creature is for survival.   Posted: 10/02/2026 21:49:53

I really love this shot (it doesn't hurt that green is my favorite color :) ).

I'm not sure that I would have had the courage to show such a dark photo, especially around the frog's eyes, but it definitely works.

Background, textures on the leaf and the frog are all first rate!   Posted: 10/06/2026 02:17:23

Hi Sherry, The sharp textures of the frog against a soft, uniform background makes this photo work beautifully. The side lighting brings out the details of the subject and immediately draws my attention to the frog. Very nicely done!
Good luck on your trip to Kenya!   Posted: 10/08/2026 22:07:45
