About the Image(s)
One of the more entertaining birds in Florida...the Reddish Egret. Taken at Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel, FL. They are on fun to watch and erratic as they come when they are looking for food. In addition this was shortly after sunrise so light was pretty bad and the water pretty green (all the time). But the position of the wings was great and working with an ISO of 2000....took some processing.

Significant Cropping to hone in on the bird and subsequent processing in Gigapixel to increase the density of pixels. Denoise, then isolating the bird, adjusting shadows by 2 stops, increase texture, clarity, and sharpness on bird only. Then on Color Mixer reduce the green's hue and luminance a bit. I have so many variations on all the Reddish Egrets trying to fine tune both my color skills and confidence! Not there yet....going to take a few more to get to comfort level!

We should meet up there sometime.   Posted: 08/03/2026 17:55:05
I agree with comments made. Some straightening and brightening of the water. I think the water being all the same color competes with the subject. Maybe using the Linear gradient in LrC to add some variation interest to the tone closer to the foreground. You also might play with bringing up the yellows or blue tones with the mixer. I agree, this can be a challenge and a frequent one when photographing wading birds.   Posted: 08/04/2026 19:54:45
I'm not familiar with the adjustments available on Gigapixel, but if it were Lightroom, I'd be curios to see how increasing the saturation would look.   Posted: 08/07/2026 11:32:49
Thanks for all the suggestions! I have about 30 other images of this Egret and would like to use some of those thoughts while processing! I don't get to see them on the east coast so when I do see one I go a little crazy trying to get their dancing!   Posted: 08/07/2026 21:04:15
IMO, this is one of your best.
Agree that the water seems like a blue circle in the updated version.
Clarity color and texture on the bird is amazing!
