About the Image(s)
I went to fields near the Potomac River to seek sunflowers and indigo buntings. The buntings were not cooperative, so I went over to an unplowed field filled with lots of fast little birds. This house finch was much more understanding of my need to fiddle with my settings, and sat on the stalk until I got my shot.

Of course, you managed to find the brightest finch in the field. Ours rarely get that colorful. Lovely colors.
Maybe drop the background brightness just a tad?   Posted: 08/02/2026 16:21:46

Thanks. Good suggestion.   Posted: 08/02/2026 17:41:29
big improvement. You might also try it as a vertical cropping out some of the grass and giving us a closer view of the lovely finch.   Posted: 08/10/2026 19:25:06
That was very thoughtful of the House Finch! There is a feeling of serenity in this photo. I agree with Leslie that dropping the background bit should pop the finch a bit more. The only other thought would be to tone down the brighter area on his back a tiny bit.   Posted: 08/04/2026 21:27:24
I've always felt that House Finches were underrated...they are beautiful birds in their breeding colors.
Agree with the others about toning down the background.   Posted: 08/07/2026 11:41:43

Beautiful bird....so colorful! And I agree with Gwen...The image has a great deal of serenity...makes me want to kick back and smell the roses! Nicely done.

The colorful finch really pops against the background. I agree with the others about reducing the brightness of both the background and the finch's back to help draw even more attention to the bird.
We've had a finch nest on our porch for the past four years, and every year, three to four chicks successfully fledge. So, I have a special appreciation for these beautiful birds. I'm so glad you chose this bird for this month's photo!   Posted: 08/10/2026 18:31:13

Thanks. I reworked it and posted it as a reply to Gwen and Leslie.   Posted: 08/10/2026 19:21:32
