Sloth Pooping in the Park by Leslie Larson

August 2026 - Sloth Pooping in the Park

About the Image(s)

This one is for educational purposes. For some reason sloths refuse to poop
from the canopy. They descend to the base of the tree to do their business.
This one has a look of pure relief at the base of a tree in a city park in Cartagena, Colombia. The feet in the shot show it's not out in the wild jungle.

Well, if he had pooped from the tree, he would have pooped on her head. Did she even realize he was there? And wearing flip flops yet.

Those claws could do some real damage. Interesting capture and story.   Posted: 08/03/2026 18:10:42

They move too slowly to do much damage to any ambulatory human. They aren't aggressive animals. They are pretty funny to watch.   Posted: 08/05/2026 01:28:07

I did not know that! A species with good hygiene! Learned something new.   Posted: 08/04/2026 21:37:11

We saw the Sloth in Costa Rica. BUT it was not the day of their weekly "Poop". the drawback from the other side of that equation! They are incredibly slow animals, but getting images of them in them treetop is not very exciting ......as I'm sure you can imagine! I passed on taking a shot. You can barely make out what it is. You were VERY LUCKY!!!!   Posted: 08/07/2026 21:42:15

Leslie, You were really lucky to see a sloth on the ground-what an interesting story! The first thing I noticed when I looked at the photograph were the feet. Since the story is really about the sloth, I would consider removing the feet to keep the focus on the subject and strengthen the story.   Posted: 08/10/2026 18:23:44
