Snowstorm over Bear Lake by Sarita Yeola

December 2025 - Snowstorm over Bear Lake

About the Image(s)

We visited my son in Boulder, CO over thanksgiving. One of the days we were there we went to Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. The temperatures were in single digit Fahrenheit and the wind was gust were probably 40-50mph. So I thought I would share that picture with everyone.

Winter on Bear Lake: I took this picture on a cold and windy morning November 29, 2025 at Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain NP, CO. The snow blowing over the lake created some drama in the scene.
I made some minor changes to highlights, shadows, contrast and blacks and whites in LR for this version.

Wish I'd known you were in the area. We live very close to the park. It is cold up there already for sure. The B&W treatment works well even if you didn't make it B&W on purpose. The wind whipping up snow on the lake is a nice touch.   Posted: 12/10/2025 03:52:15

Hi Leslie, Thank you for your comments. I was thinking about you when we were there. I will definitely get in touch with you when I am in the area the next time.   Posted: 12/10/2025 19:14:22

I love this shot!

It brings back memories since I used to live in Lyons, CO (near Boulder and RMNP), and often hiked Bear Lake in the summer and snowshoed there in the winter.

I like the foreground element and how the wind was whipping up the snow. The processing and white balance you have chosen emphasizes how cold the temperatures must have felt.   Posted: 12/12/2025 20:25:40
