About the Image(s)

In one of our favorite campsites in Baja CA I spotted this beetle covered with red pollen. I've never seen red pollen before.

That is so cool, Leslie! I wonder if darkening the background a tiny bit would add a bit of pop and depth?   Posted: 07/08/2025 14:13:40

Oh wow. With so much pollen on the beetle this would be a great image showcasing pollination. I love the composition and the details you have captured. I have never seen red pollen either.   Posted: 07/14/2025 15:19:56

Amazing photo with the red pollen!!!

I agree with darkening the background; this might also reduce the impact of the branches that are visible.   Posted: 07/15/2025 02:33:51

Talk about pollen load! WOW WOW WOW.

I didn't know that beetles went after pollen...I thought it was just the bees. And then the red pollen is like nothing I have ever seen before. Do you know what the flower is? I will often use iNaturalist to ID flora , they do a decent job most of the time!

Your image is fantastic, and Gwen's idea of darning the background would "highlight' all that red. Great JOB!!   Posted: 07/15/2025 18:50:15

Oh yes, beetles, moths, butterflies and other flies are all pollinators. Lucky thing as insect populations are crashing.   Posted: 07/16/2025 00:53:53

Excellent capture, Leslie. Two fascinating subjects interacting in nature. A blissful moment for anyone with a camera. The only thing that's mildly distracting is the branches on the right and the out of focus part of the plant on the bottom. Maybe a tighter crop would keep the viewer's eye trained on that red pollen. Wild! Still, a fabulous shot.   Posted: 07/21/2025 20:42:35
