About the Image(s)
Taken last week in Costa Rica. Our trip was timed to get the Quetzals in nesting season. We spent the first 2 days at two locations. This particular image was as he was taking off the branch and following the female to the nest.
Taken with Sonya1 and 300mm 2.8 with a 1.4 Tele at 420 mm.
1/2500 sec.
F4.0
ISO 1600.
Post processing was mainly getting rid of MANY tree branches in the background using Lightroom and Photoshop. So far, probably my favorite of these magnificent birds.

Sherry, This is incredible. The bird is sharp and you have composed it beautifully in the frame. The colors on the bird pop out from the creamy smooth background, you have done an amazing job getting rid of all the distractions.   Posted: 04/11/2025 17:40:51
Thanks Sarita, In addition to all the distractions, I really did struggle with the "fog" we were faced with and as a result it leached out his underside of the wing a fair amount....it should be darker, but despite multiple attempts I could not get the underportion of the wing to be the correct color. Has anyone else dealt with dense fog shooting? if so any tricks that anyone an think of .I would appreciate any suggestions!   Posted: 04/13/2025 18:41:19
Sarita said it all. That bird is beautiful and your photo did it justice. Good job on the background.   Posted: 04/12/2025 19:37:21
See my reply to Sarita...looking for suggestions on how to handle dense fog with images like this. I encountered fog every morning we were in the area ...and just haven't conquered any tricks!   Posted: 04/13/2025 18:43:07
Oh man, I can't believe your luck. I've been to that quetzal valley and never had such a clear view AND you got an action shot to boot. Wow!! You did a wonderful job of post processing. He's gorgeous.   Posted: 04/13/2025 15:15:12
