About the Image(s)
When we were driving all over Australia in 2011 (sadly our last trip to OZ), we frequently stopped to help these shinglebacks across the roads. I suspect cars are their worst enemies, but I leave it up to the Aussies to correct me. I just loved these lizards, they are so feisty.

Hi Leslie,
Wow great details in face of the skink and I really like how the focus tapers off towards the end of its body in the frame. The red color in its mouth immediately grabs my attention to the photograph. My only suggestion, if any, is to give the skink a little room on the right of the frame. Really well done!   Posted: 03/06/2025 15:32:42

Excellent shot, Leslie. What a wild-looking creature. You captured it at the decisive moment to illustrate how it got its name. Great exposure and composition with crisp focus a lot of detail. Love it!   Posted: 03/08/2025 15:25:31
This little guy jumped right out at me. I spent a month in OZ all over the country and never saw one. Maybe that's good, it scared me to death until I read your write-up. I like the current crop as its mouth and eyes are going right to the viewer.   Posted: 03/10/2025 16:25:59
Unique and interesting.....that tongue and the inside of the mouth is really interesting (wonder what that tube is at the base of the tongue is for? I was a biology major in college, can you tell? ;-)
The image is super interesting and reminds me of the Iguana around here (an invasive species green and orange) that are disgusting and huge at times. So I've been conditioned to think of them as very basic nusances. Most likely what the Aussies think.
I like the way you have focused on the tongue and mouth yet still showed us what the body looks like (even though it is mostly blurred) which keeps our focus on the Skink.   Posted: 03/11/2025 12:59:53
