About the Image(s)
Sandhill Crane landing: This photo was taken at the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge on January 4, 2025 at sunrise when the cranes were coming to the day time hangout spot from their roosting place. I brightened the birds by one stop and reduced the exposure on the tree line by one stop. I also cropped the original a little.

Lovely image and terrific colors...the golden hour for sure.
The separation of the birds and the motion of the landing ones make a great composition. well done   Posted: 01/09/2025 18:13:05

This is quite beautiful and really shows off the cranes in their natural environment. The colors contrast nicely with the background. Were you with a tour, or on your own?   Posted: 01/10/2025 19:45:39

Thanks Judy. We went on our own with a few of our photo club members. It was a great experience, we may go again next year. If you want to visit this place I would be happy to share all the details.   Posted: 01/13/2025 22:09:45

Love the lighting and the action and certainly the subjects. One of my favorites. The only thought I had might be to darken the area of the trees a little bit. My eye wants to take it all in vs focus on the cranes. Personal preference.   Posted: 01/12/2025 23:30:02

Thanks Gwen for your comments. I had harkened the tree line a little bit, will try going down another stop.   Posted: 01/13/2025 22:11:27

Would love to know if you think that makes a difference. It's excellent as is. Just a suggestion. I love Cranes!

Cranes are one of the nicest birds to watch and photograph. We have some full time residents in South Florida, so I get to see them regularly, but in a different environment, there are one or two families that live near farm and a NWR, which provides them a source of corn, which apparently is their favorite grain! the large numbers makes for an exciting photography opportunity. You have a very nice shot, but I do agree with Gwen, darkening that background vegetation would enhance the image and make the beautiful golden color all the more striking. They certainly stand out nicely from the sky and water, and a darker tree line would compliment the overall picture to give more color range.   Posted: 01/15/2025 21:26:33
