September 2023 - Saturday Morning Downtown Street Scene
About the Image(s)
uly 15th 2023 was a hot humid summer day in Baton Rouge. Downtown was overall quiet as I walked around the primary downtown street, Third Street. I came across this rather forlorn looking man, with his shoes off, hunched over a dining table seemingly sleeping. Wearing a sleeveless undershirt and old dirty jeans, he represented one of the city’s homeless citizens. Happy Irish Pub is noted in the background. It does seem he had had some food as there is a plastic container in front of him, at least, I hope he had. This was taken at settings of F10/ ISO 160/ 26 mm/ and 1/25 sec. I believe it was taken with my Ricoh GR iii x camera Urban Edition. Original was edited to eliminate the unnecessary pole in the scene as well as some exposure editing.

Hello Patti, a very interesting image and sort of a sign of our times. I like your composition and I think that the juxtaposition of the pub sign with the man really adds some impact to the image. To my eye the whole image is underexposed, especially the man and and shadows. I think that could be easily handled in Lightroom.   Posted: 09/09/2023 11:33:42

Lou, thank you , I agree that I should have focused on the man as far as the exposure in Lightroom. I went back in to adjust in my personal collection of this photo and it did improve it. Thanks for the constructive criticism .   Posted: 09/14/2023 19:56:56

You have the perfect street photography camera IMHO. Too bad you did not show us the original. It is a sad photo which you have handled very well. I took it into Luminar to retouch for brightness. Failed. Your post processing is best. Why not boost your ISO to around 1000. That camera will handle it. You images will be sharper.

Hi Patti. I like the story behind your photo. I noticed a bit of blur around the edge of his shoulder. Could you try cropping out the tree to the left of the picture? Well done capturing this scene.   Posted: 09/17/2023 04:50:52

I like this story and especially the juxtaposition between the man and the pub sign. I also would like to see this with the tree on the left cropped out. I find the tree distracting and it pulls my eye away from the man.   Posted: 09/18/2023 13:39:11
