About the Image(s)

Took it with my Nikon Z50, 24-400 lens.
The lighting wasn’t great, I tried to clean it up in Photoshop.
This was at Ward Melville Park on Long Island.
You can always see turtles on the logs, but this time there was a bird sitting there with its wings spread. I thought it was interesting the way the turtle seemed to be looking at the bird.
I would love critiques, suggestions, etc.
Thanks!

The water and reflections in the water make the turtles, the bird and the bird's reflection stand out - creates a setting. I love reflections!   Posted: 05/09/2025 17:29:19

Hey Janet! You captured a really cool moment! It's always tough when the lighting isn't what we wanted. But you did an awesome job with the shot and the editing. You asked for suggestions, so here's one: if it were my image and I had this incredible chance, I'd try to lower my camera angle. I'd shoot more from the bird's level. Again, I don't know the situation, but if it was possible to get a bit lower, I think it would make for a better composition. You should be really proud of your image - it's impressive!   Posted: 05/09/2025 17:46:40

Thanks for the kind words and the suggestion. This was taken from a bridge over a lake. Next time I'll see if there is any way to get down lower without falling in!   Posted: 05/09/2025 19:48:47

I was afraid you would say something like that. Such a great shot. Have a great day!   Posted: 05/09/2025 20:11:11

Good attempt under difficult conditions. Just for grins, I downloaded your image and took it into Photoshop. I opened the camera raw filter and chose select subject and opened up the shadows and used a touch of clarity. I'm not sure how well it came out with the small jpg. Trying it with the original image should help.   Posted: 05/10/2025 16:53:24

I actually did something similar in camera raw, but I did it for the whole picture. I didn't think of just doing it on the bird. I think the wings do look a little better on yours. I'll play with it some more. Thanks for the suggestion!   Posted: 05/10/2025 23:44:10
