I went to Tanjung Putting last week Feb 21-23, 2025. It is a an internationally famous National Park in Indonesia for ecotourism destination. It's known for its rainforests, rivers, wildlife, and bird lakes. Located in Central Kalimantan. One and half hour flight from Jakarta (capital city of Indonesia) to Pangkalan Bun. Then, riding Kapal Klotok along Kumai, Sekonyer and Air hitam (black water) River. Kapal Klotok is a travel ship. A casual place to stay for a couple of days on river side. Depending on it’s size, normally, it’s for about 10 passengers to stay.

Tanjung Putting is not just a place for Orangutan photography. This is one of the most exotic journey for those who love the vibes of a Tropical Rain Forest. It’s a habitat of many wild life. Started from Orangutan, Bekantan and Macaca (Indonesian primates), Birds, snakes, Crocodile, Tarsius (Indoneisan Nocturnal primates) and many more!

Frans - If I am reading correctly this is a baby Orangatang being held by its mother. The mother makes a wonderful background! The details in the baby's face tell a lot. Great shot!   Posted: 03/02/2025 11:00:12

Hi Ginny. You are absolutely right. I purposely crop the orangutan mother and make it as the background. Thanks for your positive comments!   Posted: 03/16/2025 21:02:13

Tanjung Putting looks like a fantastic place to visit for photography. Love to hear more about Orangutang behavior and the details of mother and baby? The variations in the tonality of the fur color and detail is processed well.   Posted: 03/07/2025 12:24:04

Thanks Richard. I feel blessed. With my age. I can see Orangutan in their natural habitat in Tanjung Puting. There are so many Orangutan images in the internet. I purposely make a tight crop and fine tune with 'level adjustment' in PS to get unique tonality and look different. I am glad you note it.   Posted: 03/16/2025 21:14:25

Wow, this is such a lovely and touching photo! The subtle hint of an adult orangutan holding a little one is really interesting. The expression on the orangutan's face seems to say, 'I'm so excited about my banana snack!' Thanks for sharing this beautiful image and telling us a bit about Tanjung Putting.   Posted: 03/07/2025 13:54:21

Hi Barbara. I saw some visitors from US and talked to them. They were so excited. I am local but ashame they appreciate the place more than us. Thanks for your good words!   Posted: 03/16/2025 21:17:32

Beautiful photo. I love the slight pop of yellow. The baby's face is adorable. I wouldn't change anything.   Posted: 03/08/2025 17:26:21

Hi Janet. I am glad you noted it. Indeed. I make partial contrast adjustment to make the green banana and the baby orangutan face more contrast. Then apply a bit of vignette around them to make it more pop. Thanks for your good words!   Posted: 03/16/2025 21:21:25

Wonderful capture Frans with great detail and color. The baby seems really intent on playing with its toes. I would also like to see another crop showing the mother.   Posted: 03/23/2025 16:39:32
