Machado Lake by Don Stouder

July 2024 - Machado Lake

About the Image(s)

I took the photo over the Machado Lake in the Ken Malloy Regional Park. As you know I have submitted several photos taken over this same park in the past. This time I turned my drone around to view the oil tanks of the Phillips 66 refinery. The image is one of the pictures used to create a 360-degree view.

This was taken with my DJI Mavic Pro, which is getting a bit long in the tooth. I am thinking of upgrading. I posted an thread in the Drone Dialog. It is the top thread. When you have a chance, would you take a quick look and comment on it. Thank you.

Don,
I like your subject the Trailer. The water with shadows leads to Oil Tanks in the background. Mid-day light is hard. Nice composition.   Posted: 07/05/2024 22:02:05

Thanks, Alex. I believe I took the shot in the late afternoon.   Posted: 07/06/2024 02:08:00

Hi Don,

I like this view, it is an interesting shot and I love the shadows of the palm trees in the water.

The image is crooked, however, and leaning to the right. It is a little confusing because the horizon is level but becomes more slanted towards the bottom of the picture. I'm not sure how I would correct that perspective.

The second issue I have with this picture is how the tanks at the top are squeezed in and touching the top of the image. You need a little more breathing room in the sky.   Posted: 07/06/2024 17:56:50

Lisa, I See you point, but I am not sure how to correct the crookedness if the horizon is straight. BTW how cool you get to go to Paris and enjoy the Olympics! Such a dreadful job. :-)

Lisa I just thought that I should be able to get a little imange of the tanks, so they don't crowd the edge so much by using Generative AI Expansion. I will have to give that a try.   Posted: 07/08/2024 00:42:51

Hi Don, interesting image and subject. I think you could expand the top quite easily, mostly you would be adding in only sky. What to do about the odd perspective is a puzzle.   Posted: 07/08/2024 22:12:26

Looks like an interesting place to fly. I would rather see more of the top of the scene rather than the area in front of the trailer, perhaps a different crop. The building roofline is not horizontal, correction by crop tool or perspective tool?   Posted: 07/10/2024 02:28:39

Thanks, Richard. I may try to use generative AI to extend the sky a bit.   Posted: 07/10/2024 14:25:47

I can only echo drema's comments. Cropped too close on the top and tilted down to the right.

And a clearer point of view would have helped. Getting closer to the tank farm in the back might have been very interesting.   Posted: 07/17/2024 02:57:34
