About the Image(s)

This is from January 2026, when I was staying at a hotel in Pittsburgh for work. I waited a long while for a car to come through, but from what I've read, it doesn't seem to be used much.

It is a screen grab from a video, cropped, with auto settings, and some vibrance, clarity, dehaze, and super-resolution applied.

The Wabash Tunnel is a former railway tunnel and presently an automobile tunnel through Mount Washington in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Constructed early in the 20th century by railroad magnate George J. Gould for the Wabash Railroad, it was closed to trains and cars between 1946 and 2004.

Another good documentary photo. The eye is drawn up the leading line straight to the bright orange opening of the tunnel. The graffiti adds a point of interest, too!

Interesting story too. Closed for 58 years! It makes me want to visit there! I see on Google Maps that the road above has beautiful viewpoints of the city skyline. I'll bet you can get even better views with your drone!   Posted: 07/06/2026 14:17:16

Hi Lisa, I agree with Drema's comments. I hate to say that the graffiti adds a lot to the image. It's too bad you could not catch a car coming out of the tunnel.   Posted: 07/08/2026 21:06:01

Very good image, looks like an interesting place that would be worth a visit the next time I'm in Pittsburgh. The road leading line take you right to the subject and the orange color really pegs it. I think the urban art adds to the image. I would make one little tweak and that is to slightly reduce the luminance of the areas with snow, give it slightly gloomy feeling.   Posted: 07/13/2026 23:59:02
