About the Image(s)

Title: The Grid, Part 1: Martins Creek Power Plant

For the power grid enthusiast and environmentalist - a 1700 megawatt, coal-fired, power plant converted to natural gas. Since the conversion from coal, the tall smokestacks are no longer needed, and the coal ash waste disposal problem has been remediated. The cooling towers are emitting non-polluting condensed water vapor.

To the right is the Delaware River and beyond is New Jersey.
The location is Foul Rift Road, Bangor PA.
Drone flown from the Jersey side of the Delaware River.

Hi Richard, I love your image. I think that the composition is great and I love the vibrant colors. I like the vapor coming off of the cooling towers.   Posted: 12/03/2024 20:57:41

A nice one!

A couple of thoughts. Shooting a little more to the left or a different time of day and there would have been more side light/shadow on the smoke stacks which in turn would have given them more dimensionality (if that is a word). See how that is working on the cooling towers?

I'm not sure that all the blue on the right side is helping and it could have been cropped in. And the top seems a little tight. If you had ther ealestate a v ertical image might have worked better emphasizing the height of the stacks and cooling towers more.   Posted: 12/13/2024 00:10:05

Thanks Pete for your comments. Aside from a little later in the afternoon with longer shadows, a more humid day would have produced more cloud activity from the towers. Having the smoke stack shadows falling on those clouds might produce an interesting effect?   Posted: 12/15/2024 02:50:39

I like Pete's suggestion re: a vertical to highlight the smokestacks but I like seeing the river on the right side of the image.   Posted: 12/15/2024 14:03:02

That's kind of the way I feel about it also. Thanks   Posted: 12/15/2024 21:13:28
