About the Image(s)

I took this image while in Iceland, this was out near the black sand beaches. We stopped to get images of the reflection in the water. The black van on the far right is our vehicle, there were six of us, including our guide.

I shot this with my DJI Mavic 2 Pro, f 5.6, ISO 100, 1/120 second. I did most of my adjustments in Lightroom, I cropped some off the bottom. Using masks I adjusted the shadow quite a bit and did some adjustments on the sky. After brightening the original I thought it looked quite flat so I saturated and enhanced the colors a little.

I like the reflection in the water, and I'm even ok with the vehicles along the road since their reflections add to the scene. But I think a time of day with prettier light might have made a better image. I also find the sandbar or rocks in the foreground distracting.

The image looks like it is leaning to the right. I see from the small amount of horizon on the right that it is almost level, but sometimes when I have found images look tilted, I have tilted them a little in the opposite direction to make them look level, even when they are not.   Posted: 11/05/2024 21:02:20

Hi Drema, thanks for the comments. I agree that the time of day is not the best, unfortunately I did not have an alternative available. I also, agree that it does appear to lean right, I did not notice that. At times I too level an images based on perception rather than reality. I think the sandbar is somewhat distracting but I kind of like it.   Posted: 11/10/2024 15:40:21

Nice spot!

I saw you raised shadows but I think they could have come up even more, especially the reflection. Also, if you had the option, I would not have cut off the right side   Posted: 11/11/2024 00:38:35

Thanks for the comments Pete. Yes, the right side is too tight, I may have other images showing more on that side. Thanks for the advice on the shadows.   Posted: 11/11/2024 13:55:25

I have a question Pete. How do you feel about the foreground? Do you think that I should I crop it off about up to the reflection?   Posted: 11/15/2024 22:09:47

Nice shot Lou, you did a nice job in bringing out the sky. If this was my image, I would have cropped off everything just in front of the mountain reflection and then the flat area to the left. Were you the only one in the group with a drone?   Posted: 11/12/2024 01:00:36

Nice photo Lou,
I would crop out foreground to just before shadow. I like the colors. Wishing for a trip to Iceland.   Posted: 11/15/2024 21:47:44

Thanks for the comments Alex. Personally, I cannot decide about the foreground.   Posted: 11/15/2024 22:08:14

I like the foreground. I think it adds depth to the image   Posted: 11/15/2024 22:30:40

I like the colors and the reflection. Great sky. This image falls in the rule of thirds. But like some said before a bit more view to the right, would have had more impact.   Posted: 11/28/2024 23:06:03
