About the Image(s)
I toke this photo in Loreto, Mexico, on the beach. Post processing was done using Lightroom and Photoshop for enhancements of lights and textures. The original photo is attached, which was taken using Sony a7IV, with Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens and ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/125 sec.

That is a beautiful site. I like the layers of color, texture and reflection. I prefer the original to the cropped version. Although the boats are larger, the massive cropped wall of rock imparts a very cramped and unnatural feeling. By contrast, the original has an open yet protected feeling. Also the blue in the sky balances the blue cast in the water and sand. The foreground in the edited version looks somewhat harsh and overprocessed. I would try eliminating the crop and backing off the adjustments. There is a restful and beautiful composition here.   Posted: 04/05/2026 00:05:33
Hi Yan, The subject areas here are where the color lies: the rafts and the reflection in the wet sand. The rafts were placed dead center giving the image a still life mood. I suggest an asymmetric crop with some subtle darkening via the Gradient Tool at the edges, particularly the lower left. This will create a bit of excitement via the diagonal tension between the color areas of rafts and reflection. Karl   Posted: 04/05/2026 02:55:28
Thanks, Judith, for the feedback, an interesting perspective. I tried to cut out the broken line on top of the mountains, to let the focus lead to the colorful canoes, to make the scene being still and calm. I'll explore further then.
Thank you, Karl, for the very useful feedback and suggestion. I'll give a try.
Thank you both, the discussions are constructive. It's always interesting to see what it is in others eyes.   Posted: 04/05/2026 17:11:24

I also like the original because I think the sky is important to balance the photo. It has a nice color which parallels the water. The reflection of the trees at the top of the rock is confusing since the trees aren't in the processed photo. I agree with Karl the boats if made by a crop to be off-center would create a stronger visual scene. I really like the calm feeling of this landscape.   Posted: 04/06/2026 17:26:59
