About the Image(s)

Last weekend I visited Ramsy’s farm to see the pumpkin patch. While exploring I spied a sheaf of corn stalks. On one curved corn leaf a lone bug went about his exploration. His motion, wind blowing in gusts and my having only an iPhone created a fine challenge. I angled the iPhone, got close for a macro, and took the shot.

The image was cropped in Lightroom Classic, and the leaf of interest was masked. Next the mask was inverted and the background was rendered black by reducing the exposure, highlights and whites. The image was then converted to monochrome in NIK 8 Silver Efex, and finished with some basic twists and tweaks in Lightroom Classic. The Bug was a challenge and required masking and tweaking in LR to remove haze. Comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Judith, I'm not enthralled with the tilted, hi-contrast version. Here's my interpretation with a Firmani horizontal flip and burned in, but not black, background. It has a 'preparing to ski downhill' feeling. The leaves have wonderful curved forms. We both seemed to want to emphasize that attribute. Simple masking done with a brush worked quickly and well with this image. Exacting masking technique is not often necessary. Karl   Posted: 11/14/2025 16:14:29
