Cool Water on a Hot Day by Karl Leck

November 2025 - Cool Water on a Hot Day

About the Image(s)

"Cool Water on a Hot Day" was actually taken on a mild fall day. The foliage is warm because the image was made with a Sony mirrorless camera converted to image all wavelengths. A Kolari IRChrome filter was used to approximate the effect of Kodak Ektachrome Aero Infrared film, a scientific false color infrared film. Only minor desaturation and levels adjustments were made. Using both IR and visible wavelengths in this creative manner gives a new look to an ordinary scene of a family watching fountains at Longwood Gardens. I was attracted by the triangular compositions of fountains and people. I see it as a subtle but kinetic landscape.

Converted Sony NEX-7 with E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens at 36mm. ISO 400, 1/320 second, f/8.
