About the Image(s)

Equipment: Nikon D800; Nikkor 80-400 @ 400mm; 1/4000 @ f8; ISO 1600; Pattern Metering

About: At the Ding Darling Sanctuary on Sanibel, FL. I saw this Reddish Heron stamping in the water. A Reddish stamps the attract food. I caught this guy as he caught the food. Processing normal exposure adjustments, slightly emphasized the red in ACR. Sharpened in Topaz Sharpen AI, then in PS sharpened Light channel with unsharp mask.

Hi Peter, The image shows a good moment in nature and is nicely composed. The underexposed heron needed denoising before all the sharpening which just emphasized the noise. As a result, a lot of feather texture was lost. Karl   Posted: 04/12/2025 21:19:37

The action is well-composed. Perhaps a gentler post-processing would allow more of the natural detail to come through.   Posted: 04/13/2025 17:04:51

What a wonderful capture, Peter! The detail of the Reddish stamp is quite amazing! I agree with the others that retaining more detail of the bird's body might make this striking image even more arresting!   Posted: 04/16/2025 16:56:49
