About the Image(s)

I took this photo three years ago on the Taipei city park. This is Oriental Magpie-Robin. I used Sony A7 III, 1/1250, F/5.6, Iso: 4000. The baby oriental magpie-Robin was just leaving the nest, and mother oriental magpie-robin was standing on a rock. May be looking after her baby.

I used camera raw to lighten and sharp the whole image a little bit.

Hi Pei-Fan, its an attractive bird. The original and the reworked image look very similar, are they the same?

You might rework this by cropping in to see the bird, the out of focus background is not important. I choose "Subject" in Camera Raw to sharpen just the subject (bird), we don't want the rest sharpened, we want it soft and out of focus, so we only see the bird. Also, I used Camera Raw Noise reduction to remove the noise that your sharpening added. Notice how the background in my version is not "crunchy" or "grainy"?   Posted: 07/06/2024 17:39:01

Thanks Brenda. I need to focus on the subject (bird). Sometimes, I used to sharp the image, maybe I need to keep in nature. very appreciated your suggestions.   Posted: 07/06/2024 23:21:21

I like Brenda's edit only I would make the subject more left of center. I think the dark tree adds to the image.   Posted: 07/09/2024 15:09:47

The bird on the mossy rock is sharp and I like the fact that the bird is looking into the camera. I like the image more when much of the tree is cropped out keeping Ed's comment in mind.   Posted: 07/12/2024 23:21:58

When I look at one of my photo's I ask myself, if I was an artist how would I paint that image. Then I remove from my image those things that an artist would not have included in his painting. Then I think is there anything else in my revision that an artist would have changed. If so, I change them.

When I look at Pei-Fan's image I see a bird but an artist would not have included so much of the background in his image so I cropped much tighter. But I left much of the rock to the right of the bird and also the branch of the tree as it wonderfully frames the bird.

My attempt was to show the bird standing tall, strong, and perhaps defiant and looking outward toward the right of the image.

Great capture and excellent processing! The bird is sharp, and the out-of-focus background makes it stand out beautifully. My only suggestion is to try different crops to see what works best.   Posted: 07/19/2024 02:54:22

I like the suggestion to experiment with different crops. Although I must admit I dont have any favorites... but would like those most that allow more focus on the bird.   Posted: 07/29/2024 13:53:08
