About the Image(s)

This is a 35 image focus stacked image of a Queen Anns Lace flower. The image was made with a
100mm macro lens with the following settings:
f/13
1/125 second
ISO-3200
EV -1

It was made at night with a high-powered video light. It was focus stacked with Zerene photo stacking
software and further post processed with photoshop.

The image shown as the original is just one of the
35 images which was near the middle of the stack.

I have a nice color version also which I might post as
a response.

I appreciate all the work you did to get this, and thanks for detailing your focus stacking settings and procedure.

It's not grabbing me, I'm not sure why? Maybe the Queen Anne's Lace isn't very bright? Or its a little busy and took a while to realize we were under it? And the light is under it(not over it like the sun)?

I definitely would love to see your color version, as I am a fan of your photography and creativity, and adore Queen Anne's Lace.

I hope Sunil will have some monochrome magic that will take your idea to the next level.   Posted: 07/06/2024 17:52:21

I find this to be a fun and interesting pattern that captures my interest as it takes a little while to realize that this is taken from beneath the subject.   Posted: 07/12/2024 23:23:39

Ed, you did an amazing job in creating such a detailed image of a Queen Anne's lace looking up. But, to me there are so many lines in the image that they detract from the composition. In my revision I made a rough attempt at minimizing the number of lines. You might consider shooting the flower again but pruning it to improve the composition. Jim, did you post a worked image? Nothing shows?   Posted: 07/29/2024 23:43:17

I agree with Brenda's and Jim's suggestion. I also learn that, a clear subject and a grasp of the context that can simply present the relationship between the subject and object are important. Thanks for you sharing your data: f/13, 1/125 second, ISO-3200, EV -1, at night with a high-powered video light.   Posted: 07/17/2024 22:31:54

Ed,
Great image and beautifully converted to monochrome-just perfect! My suggestion is to print it large; it would make a fantastic picture to hang on the wall. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 07/19/2024 03:09:00

My revised image did not post along with my earlier comments.
So I am trying again to do post my suggested revision. My attempt was to simplify the image.   Posted: 07/21/2024 10:23:11

Its an interesting image concept. I am not a fan of the color version. I appreciate the black and white version but agree that the enhancements in the revision suggested by Jim's photo has more clarity and definition of the image.   Posted: 07/29/2024 13:43:31
