About the Image(s)
This was shot at a building near the JFK Memorial in Dallas. I loved the texture of the pillars and wanted to highlight that so burned the second one and "de-texturized" plus processed the front one to be the main subject. Shot at midday on an overcast day.

It seems right to have emphasized just the near column. Without your comments, the point of the picture could have been the carvings or the perspective. Posted: 08/02/2026 23:57:02
I got your point of emphasizing the beautiful texture and caving of the pillars. You've done a nice post-processing as well. In my perspective, it would be emphasized even more if you used a 1x1 frame for this image. You could try using PS Crop Expand if you don't have more captures of these pillars. I really love the original, as I do like the carvings and how we see the textures throughout the image. In my opinion, I think your revised image has less interest.

Brenda - I liked the original as well but was given the "advice" (why do we listen to some people?) that the second pillar distracted from the first due to the bricks and molding. Maybe they hadn't understood my intention. Which raises the question for me - should artistic intention be considered when analyzing images, if so, how much? It seems like a lot of reviewers (outside of this group) consider technical execution much more important than artistic merit. - Kathryn Posted: 08/14/2026 22:02:59
This is a really interesting subject. I wonder how it would have looked if you had sot the pillar capital straight on from a 45 degree angle to create more symmetry. With all the multicolored grains in the rock it might have made a nice Black and White. Posted: 08/14/2026 17:01:35

I liked this photo and the way you processed it. By making the pillar in the background darker, you have isolated the main subject beautifully. It really pops against the darker background and gives the image a wonderful sense of depth and three-dimensionality.
